Max und Moritz: German cuisine(That's Shanghai)
Updated: 2006-06-12 15:48 The little known (outside of Austria and Germany) fairy tale, Max und Moritz, concerns two best friends who play seven nasty pranks on society. MuM, the restaurant, pays tribute to the terrible two by lining the walls with reprints of the lads' comic strip adventures. Intentionally, or not, the havoc-wreaking duo are bathed in warm yellow lights, and placed in a cozy, wood-lined interior. Which suits the menu, if not the theme. The food is of the German comfort variety, including stew with potato and beef cubes (RMB 35), boiled beef sirloin with horseradish sauce (RMB 85) and apple strudel (RMB 48). The fare is more than satisfactory, but the soundtrack-ABBA and Air Supply-is less welcome. If MuM were to offer more oom-pa-pa, and less corn, it might attain the essential Germanic flavor for which it strives. Location: No.599 Pudong Dadao, by Dongfanglu
