Bergen rock music Updated: 2006-04-06 14:14 Norway's long tradition of
music dates back over 3,000 years, with the discovery of bronze horns used in
1500 BC. But especially over the last decade, the country's west coast capital
of Bergen has been a hotbed of musical activity with a growing number of
festivals, live venues, independent record labels, and most importantly, a wide
style range of bands, performers, and artists.
The Bergen scene's ability for collaboration is the main reason behind the
city's strong international standings in the industry.
And now Bergen is setting its sights on Beijing. The recent collaboration
between Norway's October Party Records, and Beijing's YGTwo Productions, along
with punk band SUBS, brought on the release of the album entitled "Bergen Rock
City - Volume One" in China.
China Drive Features Correspondent Su Xiaowei caught up with Kjell Moberg, of
October Party Records, the Norwegian partner behind the project.
He's the Bergen force behind Bergen Rock City, a compilation album of 18
Norwegian bands, recently released in China. You can check out his band JEF this
Friday April 7th at 13 Club in Beijing and again Sunday April 16th at Yugong
Yishan.
