China Eastern Airlines yesterday ordered interior stretchers from Airbus, planning to redesign the interior of one plane to transfer victims from the quake center, according to today's People's Railway Daily.
Sources from First Financial Daily said China Eastern has prepared three cargo airplanes everyday to transport supplies 24 hours a day, and six helicopters are also serviced in Chengdu, Southwest China's Sichuan Province, to air drop goods.
Figures from Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), said as of May 18, it had arranged 2,500 flights transporting 3,165 tons of supplies and 35,000 rescuers including army, policeman, and doctors to the affected places.
CAAC also approved the Mandarin Airlines and China Airlines applications from Taiwan Province to transport goods to Chengdu on May 19 and 20.
Other airlines including China Southern Airlines, Hainan Airlines and Air China also were transporting goods to the quake zone.
Private airlines like Jixiang Airlines and Spring Airlines are also getting involved.
