XINING -- The underground water in China's quake-hit township of Gyegu in the northwestern province of Qinghai has not been contaminated in the wake of the 7.1-magnitude earthquake that struck Wednesday, Chinese environmental experts conducting water tests here on Sunday said.

He said the conclusion was made based on water sample tests from three underground water levels in Gyegu Town after the earthquake by a group of environmental experts from the China Environmental Monitoring Station and its Qinghai subsidiary.
The provincial land resources bureau said the drilling work for three emergency wells for the township will be done soon.
