Panchen Lama donates to quake relief in NW China

YUSHU, Qinghai -- A 100,000-yuan donation from the 11th Panchen Lama, Bainqen Erdini Qoigyijabu, was sent to China's quake zone in Yushu, northwestern province of Qinghai, on Sunday, along with his encouraging words.

The 11th Panchen Lama has entrusted the united front work department in Qinghai to convey his letter of encouraging quake victims to conquer the disaster and rebuild their homes with the help from all Chinese ethnic groups.

The 7.1-magnitude quake, which struck the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Yushu in southern Qinghai early Wednesday, has left 1,484 dead as of Sunday morning.
