Police officers have been deployed about every 10 meters along the expressway linking the capital city Xining to quake-hit Yushu, to help relief-loaded vehicles rushing to the quake zone.

It takes 14 hours to cross the 830-kilometer connection because the only cross-river bridge on the road was damaged in the 7.1-magnitude quake.

Army men were stationed along the road in case of any accident that might block the road.
