Wife of Chinese president visits Macao nursery

MACAO: Liu Yongqing, wife of Chinese President Hu Jintao, said charity exchanges and cooperation could be cemented between Macao and China's inland area during a visit to a Macao nursery Saturday afternoon.

China's inland area could learn from Macao's successful experience in the development of charity and public welfare cause, she said.

Liu, who accompanied President Hu Jintao to attend the celebrations marking the 10th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland, visited the S. Joao nursery affiliated to the Mothers' Program of Macao with a history of 50 years.

In a selfless spirit, the Mothers' Program did many good deeds for the Macao people, especially the elders, women and children, Liu said, "Your work is quite meaningful."

The nursery accommodates 130 kids aged between three months and three years. Two of them presented flowers to Liu. She also watched their performances and took a photo with them.

The SAR chief executive's wife Taniana Lau accompanied Liu during the visit.
