Family member and friends remember Li Xing

Li Xing was "a happy woman", who continuously drew happiness from her work and family, said Sun Chenbei, husband of China Daily's late veteran journalist Li Xing.
"She had a career she loved, and she was on duty till the end."

She was utterly relaxed and happy at home no matter how tired she was from work", said Sun. "We had tons of topics to talk about because we had shared many common interests."
"My wife and I liked to share everything. We chatted on the phone everyday no matter where we were - in the office, on business travels…"
Sun said Li wasn't a fan of jewelry and cosmetics but enjoyed her chats with their daughter about learning, games and shopping. Their daughter even referred to her as "sister".
Sun also said his wife loved cooking, mostly because she wanted to be a good wife. "She was good at cooking indeed, and she always wanted to try something new," Sun remembered.
"She was an ordinary person, just like anyone of us. But if there was one difference that set her apart, it was her infatuation with her work," Sun concluded.
Li Xiaoping, a decade-long friend of Li Xing, remembered the first time she saw Li: "She was beautiful, warm and sincere, and liked helping others."
Li Xiaoping remembered that each time she met Li over work matters, the journalist was always busy with her work, or she was busy helping and taking care of others.
Although she didn't become a diplomat like her parents, Li Xing was a people's diplomat throughout her news career.
Ji Tao, Li's long-time colleague and bureau chief of China Daily USA, said "With her vivid reports about China, she allowed more people to hear China's voice and further understand China, and she improved communications between east and west".
Ji also mentioned when Chas Freeman, former US ambassador to China and one of her loyal readers, met Li for the first time on May 25 in Washington, he said Li was full of vigor and vitality and cut through red tape.
"Ms Li was not only an excellent journalist but an ambassador boosting the cultural exchange between the US and China," Ji said.
