My wish for a new China
By Stephen Wong
Updated: 2009-09-09 14:50 As an overseas Chinese living in Australia, I wish to congratulate China on the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. After years of trial and tribulation, the people of China, through hard work and determination, have succeeded in becoming a strong and secure nation. The people are now enjoying the fruit of their labor and may it continue forever. As China emerges as a powerful economic nation, it is our wish that the world will benefit from the scientific and social innovations of the new China in the coming years. Especially we look forward to a leadership role by China in International affairs. However, we would also welcome further reform in China’s domestic affairs, in the areas of legal system, governance, and social justice. At the moment, China has rules, regulations, and practices that discriminate its citizens with Hepatitis B. This also extends to foreigners with Hepatitis B, many of them overseas Chinese. They are refused visa to visit China. Hopefully, the removal of this backward policy, based on ignorance and prejudice, will be the first reform in the next 60 years. |
