Jan 10, 1938: Military People Congress of Shanxi-Chahaer-Hebei border area is held in Fuping in west Hebei

This is the first anti-Japanese democratic political power with the nature of united front behind enemy lines led by the Communist Party. Interim administrative committee of Shanxi-Chahaer-Hebei border area was set up in the meeting by democratic elections with Song Shaowen as the director. It had an important strategic position with the center area among four railways of Pingsui, Pinghan, Tongpu, Zhengtai.

Jan 10, 1946: Representatives of the CPC and the KMT government sign the armistice agreement and issue a cease-fire order

Chiang Kai-shek insisted that the Northeast was an exception to the Armistice Agreement with the support of the U.S. in order to play a free hand in the Northeast, and then set the war fire to the internal customs; when issuing the cease-fire order, Chiang Kai-shek ordered the KMT troops to quickly "seize strategic points". CPC representatives disclosed the conspiracy of the US-Chiang reactionaries diametrically at the negotiating table. The People's Liberation Army also diametrically fighted for every inch of land to repel the KMT army in self-defense.

Jan 10--Jan 31, 1946: Representatives of the Kuomintang, Communist Party of China, Chinese Youth Party, and China Democratic League, as well as independent delegates, attend the Political Consultative Conference in Chongqing

The conference adopted five agreements including Act of government restructuring, Act of peace-building, Act of military issues, Act of national assembly and Act of draft constitution. The meeting was conducive to a certain extent to overcome the KMT dictatorship and realize a democracy politics; it was conducive to peace-building, which was welcomed by people across the country.

Jan 10, 1949: Huaihai Campaign to fully annihilate Du Yuming group ends its third phase

The Huaihai Campaign, the longest, largest and bloodiest of the three national liberation wars against the Du Yuming group, ended its third phase. In the Huaihai Campaign, the KMT inputted the total force of 800,000 and the PLA inputted 600,000 people, which was the only one among the three battles the PLA force less than the KMT army. The campaign lasted 66 days, during which 22 corps, or 56 divisions, of the Kuomintang's crack forces, comprising 555,000 men, were completely wiped out by the PLA. The People's Liberation Army straight out of the Yangtze River to liberate the vast region north of the Yangtze River; Nanjing, Shanghai and Hankou as the political and economic center of Kuomintang reactionary had been under direct threat by the PLA. In the battle, the PLA received the strong support from the people of Shandong, Jiangsu, Henan, Anhui, and Hebei, with 5,430,000 migrant workers' services.

Jan 10—Jan 21, 1985: The Ninth Session of the Sixth National People's Congress is held in Beijing

This session approved the proposal by the State Council on the establishment of Teacher's Day, declaring the tenth of September every year Teacher's Day. On the first Teacher's Day, Li Xiannian, as president, sent letters to teachers across the nation to congratulate them on the National Teacher Festival. On the same day, the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee, State Education Commission, Beijing Municipal People's Government, Central Committee of the Communist Young League, National Education Labour Union, and other units held a grand rally in the Great Hall of the People to celebrate the first Chinese Teacher's Day.

A native of Le Zhi, in Southwest China's Sichuan Province, and awarded by the People's Republic of China the military rank of marshal; Served as the country's Vice Premier (1954-1972) and Foreign Minister (1958-1972)
