HK official to attend APEC meetings in Singapore

HONG KONG: Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of Hong Kong Rita Lau will leave for Singapore to attend the 2009 Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) meetings, according to local government website on Tuesday.

Lau will attend the 21st APEC Ministerial Meeting on November 11 and 12 during which ministers will exchange views on measures to strengthen the multilateral trading system, accelerate regional economic integration, foster inclusive and sustainable economic growth, and strengthen APEC.

Lau will also accompany the Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang to attend the APEC CEO Summit.

On November 13, Lau will host a reception for Hong Kong businessmen and prominent local interlocutors in Singapore. The chief executive will also attend the reception.

While in Singapore, Lau will take the opportunity to hold meetings with her ministerial counterparts to exchange views on bilateral trade relations and issues of mutual interest. Lau will return to Hong Kong on November 14.
