Singapore confident of security measures for upcoming APEC summit

Singapore said on Wednesday that it is confident about the security measures it has put in place for the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings.

According to local TV broadcaster Channel News Asia, Singapore's Second Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam said that the island-state is not taking anything for granted.

"Our position has been that we have not come across any seriously credible known threat," Shanmugam said, "But that doesn't mean there can be no such threats. We always have to take it very seriously."

He added that Singapore has put in place what considered to be adequate measures.

Approximately 10,000 delegates are expected to attend the APEC Leaders Week Meetings, which will be held from November 8 to 15.
