The Wu Jieping Medical Award and Wu Jieping Medical Innovation Award were announced in Beijing on Friday to honor China's top medical personnel.
Given by the Wu Jieping Medical Foundation, which began in 2002, the honor has been awarded to 16 recipients. As one of the sub-awards, the innovation award was launched in 2012 to highlight those under 50 accomplishing medical innovation achievements with improved socioeconomic performance.
Starting this year, the prize money has been raised from 200,000 yuan to 500,000 for medical award winners and 100,000 to 200,000 for innovation winners.
This year's award goes to Chen Tianmin and Chen Saijuan, both academicians from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, for their contribution to the country's nuclear protection medicine and haematology, respectively.
Six other experts won the innovation award.
Wu Jieping was a founder of Chinese urinary surgery science, making remarkable contributions to the development of urinary surgery and medical science in China.
