Beijing-Zhangjiakou railway to offer Wi-Fi
The Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed railway, a new railway linking Beijing and Zhangjiakou, a city in North China's Hubei province, will offer onboard Wi-Fi service for passengers.
This new transportation project has been announced with the 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in mind. Athletes, spectators and reporters from China and abroad can commute between Beijing and Zhangjiakou, two host cities of the games, by high-speed trains.
The railway will feature a new intelligent bullet train, which is better in energy saving, environmental protections and intelligent control than the currently-used "Fuxing" bullet train. The train will provide onboard Wi-Fi service for the live coverage of 2022 Winter Olympic Games and offer special media coaches for watching the live transmission.
Apart from the wireless network access, the bullet train will be equipped with various facilities for disabled passengers. Meanwhile, zones for doping tests and storing winter sports apparati are also planned for the train.
The new railway project is expected to be finished by the end of 2019, and is estimated to reach speeds of 350 kilometers per hour. After construction of the railway is complete, travel time from Beijing to Zhangjiakou will be shortened, from three hours to less than an hour. The railway will be the first high-speed service of its kind built in the arctic-alpine and windy area. China's advanced high-speed railway technology can ensure smooth operations during the Winter Olympics.
