89 hospitalized after gas blast in Northeast China
CHANGCHUN -- Chinese doctors are making efforts to save 89 people, 14 of whom are critically injured, after a gas pipeline explosion Tuesday.
The explosion in Songyuan city of Northeast China's Jilin province, left five people dead, the local government said Wednesday. Most of the injured suffered burns, bone fractures and bruises.
The accident occurred around 2:45 pm Tuesday when workers were repairing a section of leaking gas pipeline.
The provincial health commission has sent 11 experts to Songyuan to help with medical treatment.
