Thousands displaced by quakes in southwest China
KUNMING -- More than 5,200 people have been displaced, and over 27,000 people were affected after tremors hit a Southwest Chinese county.
Three tremors, measuring around 5.1 in magnitude, hit Yangbi county in Yunnan province early Monday morning. One person was injured by falling tiles. About 7,180 houses in three counties were damaged.
Economic losses of the quake totaled 350 million yuan (about $51.4 million).
Yunnan civil affairs departments have allocated tents, coats, beds and food to quake-affected people. Six settlements have been established to accommodate those whose homes are damaged.
