New regulations issued to protect rights of attorneys
Lawyers association names spokesmen
The All China Lawyers Association announced on Friday it would appoint spokesmen to promptly respond to public concerns and better introduce the legal service sector.
Jiang Min, vice-president of the association, and Ma Guohua, its deputy secretary-general, were named spokesmen. The association will also designate other spokespersons for specific news releases if subjects require.
The Ministry of Justice, which administers China's 328,000 lawyers, required in January that the association have spokesmen to accurately and promptly respond to concerns from the legal profession, media organizations and the general public.
He Yong, secretary-general of the association, said information released by the association mainly falls in the following categories: policies and decisions made by the central leadership with regard to lawyers; important events organized by the Ministry of Justice and the association; major developments in the legal profession; clarification of misunderstandings related to the legal profession; major news or emergencies in which lawyers are involved; and suggestions regarding major lawsuits in China as well as overseas.
