A look into lives of foreigners in China during Spring Festival

Michael Omoruyi (from Nigeria)

1. What's your favorite food for Spring Festival?

My favorite food for the Spring Festival is fish and longevity noodles. I prefer fish and noodles because of their symbolic meaning. Fish represent an increase in prosperity, while noodles represent happiness and longevity.

During the year of the Monkey, I was in my colleague house dining with them, although I was having a good meal, but I was concentrating on the fish and noodles which I think irrespective of the symbolic meaning taste well.

2. What would you like to do most during the Spring Festival?

During the Spring Festival, I love to stay at home to watch the gala shows on TV, travel to visit family friends or visit new places with friends.

3. What is the biggest change in your life during the past year?

The biggest change in my life during the past year has been my ability tolearned how to be patient and focus on keeping ‘one step ahead’. The Chinese system taught me that in order for me to be able to keep ‘one step ahead’, I do not have to rest on my past successes, I should be ready to make myself a project, to learned to work on myself and continue to add to my connections and be a continuous learner, to work hard on myself so that I can stay relevant, above all, I should not forget to embrace change. It is only by practicing these principles, I can make change happen andbe able to give back to the society. Today, my life is full of positive memories because the Chinese system made the change happened in my life during the past year.
