BEIJING - Qiushi Journal, the flagship magazine of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, will on Sunday publish excerpts of a speech President Xi Jinping made during a key Party meeting.

Xi, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, delivered the speech on strict Party governance during the sixth plenary session of the 18th CPC Central Committee in late October.

According to the excerpts, which Qiushi will carry in its first 2017 issue, Xi called for efforts to push forward comprehensive and strict governance of the Party.

While acknowledging significant progress in recent years, Xi said some Party members and cadres have not done enough.

Strengthening and regulating intra-Party political life and improving intra-Party supervision are crucial to comprehensive and strict Party governance, he said.

The meeting approved two documents, including the norms of political life within the Party in the new era and a regulation on intra-Party supervision.

The norms offer solutions to the symptoms and root causes of prominent contradictions and problems in the Party, Xi said, adding that the document's effectiveness relies on its implementation.

Xi ordered strict implementation of the regulation, saying it is designed to improve intra-Party supervision in the new era, and should bind Party organizations at all levels, as well as all Party members and cadres.

In addition, Xi highlighted the important role of leading officials, especially senior ones, in enforcing comprehensive and strict Party governance, and implementing the two documents.

Xi urged senior officials to be self-disciplined and dedicated to advancing strict Party governance, while serving as positive examples.
