Chinese President Xi Jinping has ordered a thorough investigation after the collapse of a platform under construction at a power plant killed at least 67 people on Thursday.

Xi, who is in Chile on a state visit to the Latin American country, also said rescue efforts would continue and demanded all necessary precautions be taken to avoid further accidents.

Premier Li Keqiang also told rescue workers to put lives first, save trapped people and treat the wounded immediately.

Seventy people were working at the site at 7 am when the platform collapsed at the Fengcheng Power Plant in the city of Yichun, East China’s Jiangxi province.

Two people were injured, and their conditions remain unknown.
