Police in Liaoning province have arrested the driver of a truck carrying 35 million yuan ($5.2 million) who is suspected of making off with 6 million yuan from the vehicle.
A police statement said 5.66 million yuan had been recovered at the home of a relative of the suspect and the remaining cash was still in the truck.
The robbery took place in Yingkou, Liaoning province, at about 1 pm on Wednesday. The suspect was captured eight hours later.
The city's publicity department said the vehicle was transporting cash to a branch of the Agricultural Bank of China in Dashiqiao, a city administered by Yingkou.
Police said the suspect is the truck driver, a 35-year-old man surnamed Li, and that he had used a homemade gun in the robbery.
Li works for a company that transports cash for financial companies and organizations.
