"We trained subway staff about emergency treatment every year," said Liu Hongmei, deputy director of Beijing Emergency Medical Center. For example, all staff on subway line 4 participate in the training when it opens.

A subway employee also said that the subway company gives emergency training to its staff from time to time and examines their performance with the Beijing Red Cross. Every station and every team has an employee who holds an emergency training certificate.

However, Liu said that the training is in a basic understanding of emergency knowledge, so the skills they acquire cannot be compared with professionals.

50 service stations with AED will be built

The good news is that 50 service stations with AED will be built in Beijing this year. According to Li Jinhua, director of Beijing Red Cross, 50 service stations, include some in hub stations, can provide emergency services like cardiac resuscitation, hemostasis and the binding up of sports injuries. Blood pressure monitors and AEDs will also be installed.

Currently the service stations are still in the approval stage. Emergency materials will be dispatched and training be conducted after approval.
