KMT chair vows to adhere to '1992 Consensus'

TAIPEI -- Hung Hsiu-chu, the newly-elected chair of the Kuomintang (KMT), said on Wednesday the party will continue its stance of adhering to the 1992 Consensus and maintaining peace across the Taiwan Straits.

The KMT condemned the irrational reactions of some political figures of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)and the "New Power Party" over Kenya's deportation of 45 Taiwanese telecom fraud suspects to the Chinese mainland, Hung said at a meeting of the party.

The KMT chair said she hoped the two parties will draw a lesson and no longer misunderstand the law or fail to tell right from wrong.

The fruits of peaceful development of cross-Straits relations since 2008 are hard won and the key lies in the goodwill based on the 1992 Consensus, she said.
