The Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) has a separate office for juvenile cases.
Previously, juvenile affairs were managed by various SPP agencies. Now the office will take charge of handling the arrest, investigation and prosecution of underage suspects.
It will also be responsible for supervising and guiding other civil and administrative cases involving juveniles.
The new office will improve judicial protection for underage suspects and help reduce their crimes, according to the SPP.
Currently 12 provincial and about 960 municipal procuratorates have established such offices to handle local juvenile cases.
