BEIJING - China's Diaoyutai State Guesthouse is taking action against Philips (China) Investment Co. Ltd for misleading advertising of its air purifiers.
Philips is alleged to have publicized that its air purifiers were specifically designed for Diaoyutai and used during the 2014 APEC meeting, according to guesthouse administrators. Philips has used the adverts in shopping centers and online.
The guesthouse, affiliated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, claims to never have purchased nor used any of the Philips air purifiers mentioned in the campaign.
It wants Philips to immediately withdraw the adverts, pay 100,000 yuan ($16,340) in compensation and apologize at least twice in national media.
The guesthouse lawyers sent several letters to Philips but they were ignored.
The Haidian District People's Court has accepted the case. The verdict is yet to be issued.
