China is mulling a development plan for the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) under the nation's strategic One Belt and One Road proposals, said She Jing, former vice-minister of health.

Serving currently as the chairwoman of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies (WFCMS), She made the remarks at the First Summer Summit of World Congress of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which has just concluded in Hangzhou, east Zhejiang province.

"The One Belt and One Road proposals will surely help the time honored TCM, both medicines and techniques go abroad to benefit the health of other peoples worldwide," she said.

To date, TCM has been spread and practiced at more than 160 countries and regions worldwide, according to She. Many have given legal recognition to the oriental medical science thus people in such countries could have their medical bills for TCM therapies reimbursed under local health insurance programs.

She said WFCMS will provide technical support to other national governments and cooperate with other non-governmental organizations to promote TCM so it can better serve the health of people all over the world.
