Shanghai has announced new security measures aimed at preventing tragedies following the fatal New Year's Eve stampede.
The local government will improve its emergency response abilities and beef up control of the movement of people at scenic areas, the city's Information Office said at a press conference on Wednesday morning.
Public display screens and outdoor radios would issue timely information on flows of people, so that prompt measures can be taken to ensure public safety.
36 revelers were killed and 49 others injured in the stampede, with ages ranging between 12 and 37.
Due to the fatal stampede, the original 29 large-scale celebrations to be held during the Spring and Lantern festivals are reduced to 24, according to the city's vice mayor Zhou Bo.
