A series of activities featuring exhibitions of flowers and folk arts will be held in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province, from Feb 15 to March 5 to celebrate the Spring Festival, local authorities said on Tuesday.
The activities will cover all districts of Guangzhou, which has developed a long history of celebrating the Spring Festival, which falls on Feb 19, by displaying flowers in major public venues and homes.
The local authorities will also organize promotional events in some major cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Guiyang of Guizhou province and Nanning of the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region to promote the city's traditional celebration.
"Guangzhou people would like to go visiting flower fairs at the New Year's eve and buy some flowers as a traditional way to greet the Chinese lunar new year," said Ni Huiying, a Cantonese Opera artist.
