A Japanese consortium assembled from governments and companies on Kyushu arrived in Shanghai on Monday, where it signed agreements with 28 Chinese travel agencies to attract tourists to Japan.

It's the first time Kyushu — the third-largest island of Japan — has sent local companies and government officials to promote its environment and tourist products in China, aiming to boost its economy, Global Times reported on Tuesday.

The group signed agreements with travel agencies from Shanghai, and Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces on Monday. The cooperation will help the Chinese companies promote Kyushu's travel products and services.
