The work of rearranging archives for martyrs who died for the construction of the Qinghai-Tibet and Sichuan-Tibet highways is under way to mark the 60th anniversary of their opening, according to the Civil Affairs Department of the Tibet Autonomous Region.
Around 3,000 soldiers and civilians have sacrificed their lives to build the two highways, sources say. But in the latest edition of the Tibet Revolutionary Martyrs List, only 100 of them were documented, due to long time and backward statistical work.
The Tibet Revolutionary Martyrs List gives a very general account of the martyrs, including their names, birthplaces, time and places of work, and time and reasons of death.
Martyrs cemeteries can be seen in many places along the Sichuan-Tibet Highway, such as Baxoi and Bome counties of Tibet. People of the places would pay visits to the tombs and present Khada as tributes.
In July 2014, a thorough investiation was conducted for all the martyrs in Tibet in preparation for the renovation of the cemeteries.
