LANZHOU - Six members of the same cult responsible for the brutal killing of a woman in a McDonald's outlet were found guilty of using the cult to sabotage law enforcement, a local court in northwest China's Gansu Province said on Saturday.
The six Almighty God cult members were found to have organized fundraising events and promotional activities and were sentenced to prison terms ranging from three to five years, according to the Chengguan District Court in Lanzhou City, Gansu provincial capital.
Despite the cult being banned, the six continued to engage in activities that seriously disturbed social order and the work of state agencies, the court said.
On May 28, five members of the cult killed a woman at a McDonald's outlet in Shandong Province because she refused to give them her cellphone number. They were trying to recruit new members.
