Health authorities in Qingdao are now dismissing rumors that the city has confirmed its first case of Ebola.

The rumor, first circulated as a "moments" tweet on WeChat, China's most popular instant messaging tool, alleging that the Qingdao Radio, a government-run media outlet aired the news.

The post also quoted that medical experts warned the public to stay away from street food and wash their hands regularly.

The tweet went viral shortly.

But later reporters confirmed with Qingdao Disease Prevention and Control, that the case was non-existent.

Ealier, in the city of Ningbo in Zhejiang, residents were similarly alarmed when rumors circulated that a West African man was confirmed as an ebola patient.

But authorities later came clean with the rumor saying the man had been suspected as an Ebola patient but after a few days quarentine, he was released from a local hospital.
