An official with the country's quality watchdog has called for further promotion of Chinese brands in the manufacturing sector to transform the country's economic growth.

Wu Qinghai, deputy minister with the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, said that industries and regions across the country must draft concrete plans to foster name brands as part of an effort to transform economic growth.

Wu said at the start of this year's China Quality Miles campaign on Saturday that enterprises should devote more efforts to the innovation process and take the lead in the world's manufacturing sector.

As part of those efforts, Wu said the Association for Quality Promotion under the quality watchdog should better help enterprises in the brand building process.

Pu Changcheng, president of the China Association for Quality Promotion, said the association will devote more efforts to promote companies that take the lead in innovation, brand building and ensuring product quality.

The association will also transform its role in the process to suit the need for transformation in the manufacturing sector.

China's top leaders have made remarks on various occasions on the transformation of the country's growth model in the manufacturing sector this year.

President Xi Jinping said during an inspection trip to Henan province this year that the country should devote more efforts to transform the country's growth mode, including the transformation of made-in-China products to created-in-China products, Chinese speed transforming to Chinese quality and Chinese products to Chinese brands.

Premier Li Keqiang called for promoting the quality of Chinese products to help counter the side effects of decelerating economic growth at the China Quality Conference on Sept 15.

He emphasized the essential role of companies in quality management and the need for less government intervention to give companies the freedom to decide what to produce.
