HK approves grant for SW China earthquake victims

HONG KONG - The Hong Kong government Monday announced that a grant of 395,000 HK dollars (about 50,968 US dollars) has been approved to Correctional Services Department Credit Union Education Fund (CSDCU Education Fund) for providing relief to earthquake victims in Yunnan province, Southwest China.

The move came after the government accepted the advice of the Disaster Relief Fund Advisory Committee.

The committee hoped that the grant would provide relief to the earthquake victims in Yunnan and help them restore their normal life, a government spokesman said.

The grant, together with those approved earlier, will take the accumulative value of grants for earthquake victims in Yunnan to 23.07 million HK dollars.

To ensure that the money would be used for the designated purposes, the CSDCU Education Fund would be asked to submit an evaluation report and an audited account on the use of the grant after the relief project has been completed, the spokesman said.
