Functions of Department of African Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
The Department of African Affairs is responsible for bilateral affairs with 46 countries in sub-Saharan Africa, the African Union and major sub-regional organizations on the continent. Implementing China's foreign policy and principles, it works on China's bilateral relations with countries in the region, manages diplomatic contacts with and makes representations to those countries and regions on policy and exchanges, oversees and coordinates policies on those countries and guides the operation of China's overseas diplomatic missions within its regional jurisdiction.
