Child's killer sentenced to death

Han Lei, who was charged with intentional homicide in the death of a 34-month-old girl, was sentenced to death and deprived of political rights for life, the Beijing No 1 Intermediate People's Court announced Wednesday, Legal Evening News reported.

Han, 39, is accused of lifting the girl from her stroller and hurling her to the ground after a parking dispute with the baby's mother, on July 23, in Beijing's Daxing district.

The girl was severely injured and died days later despite efforts to treat her. Han fled the scene and was captured the next day.

Han, who has been in jail before, should be given severe punishment, according to prosecutors during Han's trial on Sept 16.
