Chengdu tourism connects to the world

With the theme “Chengdu tourism connecting to the world”, the PTM 2013 Panel Workshop provided a platform for delegates to share their ideas and experience of how to improve the service quality in Chengdu.

The 2013 PATA Travel Mart opened in Chengdu, Sichuan province on Sept 15.

As one of the top events in the tourism industry, this year's PTM attracted nearly 1,000 delegates from 60 countries and regions, including 300 companies.

Chengdu is the first inland city to host the event. Martin Craigs, chief executive of PATA, believed this will help inbound tourism in Chengdu.

With the theme “Chengdu tourism connecting to the world”, the PTM 2013 Panel Workshop provided a platform for delegates to share their ideas and experience of how to improve the service quality in Chengdu as the city strives to be an international tourist destination.

John Koldowski, special advisor to the PATA CEO, delivered a speech on “Global travel Trends and China tourism forecasts 2013-2017”.

He said the world's tourism development indicates a climbing trend in the first half of this year. Inbound tourism in China decreased 4.2 percent in the first half of this year. However, Chengdu's tourists increased 6.9 percent.

Koldowski said it is important to provide professional training and improve the English skills of tourism workers.

David Chen from the Google travel team suggested Chengdu add cultural and cuisine elements to attract overseas customers.

Kris Van Goethem, managing director of Kuoni Destination Management (Beijing) said service quality is the most important tourism factor, while competitive pricing of travel products also attracts customers.
