Visitors were initially confused by a unisex restroom at a famous scenic spot.

The restroom, in Baiyangdian Lake, Hebei province, can be used by both men and women but some first-time visitors were unsure about whether they could partake of its facilities..

Several pictures showing the restroom were posted on line in August and attracted widespread publicity.

But there was even confusion online as some netizens raised the possibility that it could be just for transgender users.

A member of the scenic spot's management committee stressed that it was for people in need of relief, and was particularly useful for families with young children or those who needed assistance, according to a report on Tuesday in Yanzhao Metropolis Daily, a newspaper in Hebei.

The restroom cleaner said it has not been used frequently.

Such gender-neutral, parent friendly, and physically accessible bathrooms have been set up in many scenic spots in China to cater to the needs of a wide range of users.
