A former education official in Henan province was sentenced to 15 years in prison for bribery, Legal Weekly reported on Aug 21.

Feng Zhe, the Henan Education Department's former deputy director of finance, was accused of accepting bribes for 14 years before he was detained on May 24, 2011. The total assets Feng acquired from bribery was over 10 million yuan ($1.63 million), including cash and nine residential apartments.

On Dec 18, Feng was sentenced to 15 years' imprisonment by the Mengjin county court, which had been appointed by the provincial court to hear the case.

Feng filed an appeal to a higher court, which recently upheld the original judgment against Feng.
