BEIJING - Stricter standards and higher quality are needed to push forward the "mass line campaign," an initiative to strengthen ties with the people, a senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official said Friday.
Liu Yunshan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the call while presiding over a group study meeting on the campaign.
Liu said the CPC Central Committee has attached great importance to the campaign and the masses have high expectations for it.
He also asked authorities to push forward the campaign in a practical manner, adding that an effective and long-term mechanism needs to be created to improve work styles.
Understanding and learning the spirit of the CPC Central Committee should be prioritized during the implementation of the campaign, according to Liu.
On June 18, Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, said the "mass line" is the lifeline of the Party, and the CPC's upcoming year-long campaign will be a "thorough cleanup" of undesirable work styles such as formalism, bureaucratism, hedonism and extravagance.
