A school in Tianshui city, Gansu province, has been cut off from the mainland after serious flooding.

The boarding school's only access to the outside world, a bridge from the school's gate that crossed a river, was destroyed by the rushing water.

According to the Maji district education and sports bureau, there are 120 students and teachers trapped and the food stored in the school can last for two to three days.

The local government and education authority initially decided to build a temporary bridge to transfer the students out of the school. However, for safety reasons, they eventually decided to send food to the isolated school and wait until the rain stops to evacuate those affected.

Continuous rain since the night of June 19 has caused serious floods in Tianshui city, Gansu province. More than 28 schools located in mountainous areas of the city have been affected, and some collapsed walls and gates have occurred. No deaths or injuries have been reported so far.

The weather forecast indicates the rain becomes smaller from June 20 and will last another day until June 21.
