Reversible lanes to help Beijing traffic move

chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2013-05-31 09:18

Reversible lanes will be introduced in Beijing to relieve road congestion, xinhuanet.com reported.

Chaoyang Road, a big thoroughfare on the city's east side, will be tested as the first reversible lane to allow traffic to travel in either direction depending on certain conditions, according to the Beijing Traffic Management Bureau.

More of these lanes, also called tidal lanes, will open in Beijing to accommodate traffic patterns during morning and evening rush hour.

Traffic authorities also appointed 20 one-way streets in May to improve traffic flow, making a total of 564 such streets in the city.
