Guangdong to ban relocation by threats

By ZHENG CAIXIONG in Guangzhou | chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2013-04-25 14:45

The use of threats or violence to force locals to relocate will be prohibited in Guangdong province, said a notice issued by the provincial government on Wednesday.

According to the notice on the official website of the provincial government, the provincial government will establish an advance supervision system to monitor land requisitions.

Meanwhile the notice urged relevant departments to introduce an effective land requisition compensation system to help guarantee the legal interests of people relocated.

The special notice was issued after reports of relocation violence in the southern province which borders Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions.

Many business complexes were illegally bulldozed in Foshan’s Nanhai district to give way for construction of the Guangzhou-Guizhou railway track.
