Donor of 2,224 coins helps quake victims
An 87-year-old man in Nantong, Jiangsu province, donated 2,224 coins, which he earned over two years by sharpening knives, to the quake zones in Southwest China’s Sichuan province on Sunday.
The coins donated by the man, Wu Jinquan, contained 1,714 one-yuan coins, 503 50-cent coins and seven 10-cent coins. They had a combined valued of 1,966.2 yuan ($318.13).
Wu makes a living by sharpening knives for people. He has donated 23,392.2 yuan to various organizations since 2008, including local orphanages and the Red Cross.
