Publicity authorities in Dandong, Liaoning province, said on Wednesday the city has halted all types of tourism services to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

Dandong, a city bordering the DPRK, has many travel agencies that provide travel services to the country.

Travel agencies in Dandong said on Wednesday they had halted group tours to the DPRK.

Dandong Jinqiao Travel Agency said it received a notice from the tourism administration authority, calling for the halting of tourism to the DPRK due to tensions on the Korean Peninsula, according to China News Service.

An employee from a branch of China International Travel Service in Dandong confirmed the news and said it was unclear when the service would resume, which needs approval from the authorities.

The local office for port services declined an interview request on Wednesday, the report said.
