Beijing to build more water recycling plants
The Beijing Water Authority said the capital will set up 46 new water recycling plants and upgrade 20 sewage treatment plants in the next three years, Beijing Times reported.
The plan is expected to boost the sewage treatment rate in Beijing's central districts from 96% to 98% by the end of 2015, with an increase of daily sewage treatment capacity by 2.3 million tons. The three-year plan also includes clearing the city's major polluted canals.
As of the end of 2012, the capital had 41 large and medium-sized sewage treatment plants, 50 small ones in towns and 800 more in villages. Recycled water reached 3.8 billion cubic meters from 2001 to 2012.
