By Liao Wei Updated: 2013-01-24 11:34

Beijing will speed up the development of 4G networks and expand the service range of wireless networks, according to the Beijing Municipal Commission of Economy and Information Technology (BMCEIT).

Last year, the BMCEIT chose some key regions in various counties as public service pilot areas to install wireless access points. The pilot project will span three years.

Each wireless access point will provide the public with bandwidth up to 2 Mbps. People can enjoy free Internet service in order to do activities such as surf websites and browse micro blogs.
