LOS ANGELES - Guizhou Governor Zhao Kezhi spoke highly of Chinese Vice-President Xi Jinping's visit to the US and he wanted his province in Southwest China to gain from the enhanced Sino-US relations.
"The US-China relationship has become the most important, dynamic and potential bilateral relationship of this modern time. We are here to support the visit of Chinese Vice-President Xi Jinping's visit to the US and do our part in terms of promoting economic trade and development between Guizhou province and the US," Zhao said during a luncheon hosted for local businesses from Los Angeles.
Zhao introduced Guizhou province as one with abundant natural resources, unique ethnic cultures, and especially its famed Maotai liquor, which is considered traditionally the national champion of Chinese liquor.
He took the opportunity to invite American businesses to attend the China Guizhou International Alcoholic Beverage Expo to be held in September.
According to Zhao, the reserve of coal in Guizhou province is now 54.9 billion tons, along with natural reserves of alumni, phosphorus and manganese. This has attracted 199 American trading enterprises doing business in Guizhou and 73 companies investing locally, which include Wal-Mart and Leach Group, Zhao said.
Ron Youngren, business director of Supply Chair and Strategic Initiatives of Goodrich, a US aerostructure company doing business in China, said the state and provincial government visits from China have been significant in terms of bringing people together and understanding each other.
In October, 2011, Goodrich's aerostructures business has named Guizhou Liyang Aviation Power Co Ltd an outstanding supplier for the year.
Guizhou Liyang, located in China's southwestern Guizhou province, is a subsidiary of the Aviation Industry Corp of China (AVIC). Guizhou Liyang supplies titanium and inconel machined rings for Goodrich's Boeing 787, Airbus A320 and GE CF34 nacelle systems, as well as content for other Goodrich products.
"The more I get to know Chinese people, the more I feel we are actually quite similar to each other, and for us doing business in such a progressive Chinese market is exciting for our company," said Youngren.
Zhao, leading a delegation of 20-some members from his province, arrived in LA on Wednesday. He and other provincial leaders are scheduled to participate the China-US governors' forum on Friday.
