No injuries reported after plane rolls off runway in Wuhan

A small plane rolled off the runway while trying to land on Monday afternoon at the Tianhe Airport in Wuhan, capital of Hubei province, Beijing Times reported.

No one was injured. The airport was closed for an hour and reopened at 5:30 pm.

About 60 flights were delayed, including 13 inbound planes that were diverted to other airports.

Affected airline companies suffered an estimated economic loss of 500,000 yuan ($80,000), as they paid to land at an alternative airports and passenger compensations.

Liu Weimin, director of the Civil Aviation Administration's Hubei division, said the accident may have been caused by the pilot's improper operation.

Further investigation results are pending, and the airport has suspended all activities of the responsible general aviation company from Jingmen, another city in Hubei, Liu said.
