BEIJING - Senior Communist Party of China leader (CPC) Liu Yunshan met here on Friday with Laos Deputy Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith, representative of Choummaly Sayasone, Laos president and secretary general of Laos' ruling Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP).

Liu, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, conveyed CPC Central Committee General Secretary Xi Jinping's greeting to Choummaly during the meeting.

He expressed gratitude for the LPRP central committee and Choummaly's move to send a representative to China to pass on a congratulatory message to the new central leadership of the CPC following the just-concluded 18th CPC National Congress. He said this fully demonstrated the importance they have attached to the development of China-Laos ties and intra-party relations.

Also a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, Liu briefed Thongloun on the congress, which concluded on Wednesday.

The event, which was held from November 8-14, was an extremely important meeting convened at a decisive stage in completing building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects, according to Liu. It opened up broader prospects for the development of the CPC and China, he told Thongloun.

China's party and government, he added, always placed great value in ties with Laos, and the CPC's new central collective leadership will continue to push forward the relationship.

Thongloun, also Laos' foreign minister and head of the LPRP international department, congratulated the CPC on the success of the party's congress and the election of the new central leadership on behalf of the LPRP central committee and Choummaly. He also conveyed greetings to Xi and other Chinese leaders.

The LPRP believes the brotherly Chinese people will realize the goals set in the party's congress, and contribute more to regional peace, stability, cooperation and development, under the leadership of the CPC, said Thongloun.

Laos expects to work with the CPC's new central leadership to promote bilateral ties and score more fruits, he added.
